Learn how to make your own taco seasoning from scratch!
I have a slight obsession with making my own seasonings these days. It started when I realized that I was spending way too much money on small packs of whatever seasoning I needed for a single meal. And never mind all of the additives and preservatives that come in anything prepackaged now. I did a little research and found that I could go to Sam’s Club, buy all of the ingredients I need for large batches of multiple seasonings for way cheaper than it would be if I continued buying packets for each meal.
There a few things to note here: if you want this taco seasoning to be less spicy, use less cayenne. Super simple. I like a decent amount of spice, but Briam doesn’t. He counteracts the spiciness by adding extra sour cream and cheese to his tacos. Logic. (Fun fact: adding dairy to any dish will in fact reduce the spiciness of the dish!) You also don’t have to use a mason jar. Use whatever storage container you have. I just happen to be super extra and keep different size mason jars on hand for things like this. And you don’t have to shake, shake, shake either. But it’s really fun so give it a try!
- 1/4 C Chili Powder
- 1/4 C Ground Cumin
- 1 TBSP Onion Powder
- 1 TBSP Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- 1 tsp Cayenne Pepper
- Put all of these amazing ingredients together in a mason jar or other container.
- Secure the lid and shake, shake, shake! Or use a spoon to mix everything together... but that's not as fun.
