Does this sound like you: You want to start a blog, but you have no idea where to start. If it does, then you’ve come to the right place. Today’s post is a brief rundown of how to start a blog. Starting a blog is pretty easy. You just need to follow a few steps to get started and then you’re off! Blogging can be a great way to unleash your creativity, market yourself or your business, share your thoughts with others, or be used as a way to keep yourself accountable for your goals. Regardless of what you want to blog about, getting started is super easy!
Decide on Blog Hosting
For me, choosing to use Bluehost as my hosting provider for my blog was a no brainer. They provide excellent hosting services, a great and inexpensive pricing package, and their customer service is always on point. Bluehost is my go-to provider for site security, hosting, and even domain name registration. This company really is a one-stop shop for all your blog hosting needs. I have a more detailed post with step by step instructions on how to signup with Bluehost and how to get started on WordPress.
Pick A Blog Theme
Now that you’ve set up your blog through Bluehost and WordPress, it’s time to pick your theme. Personally I recommend purchasing a customizable theme, like the beautiful ones from Restored 316. I think this is a better way to go because it allows you to stand out from the crowd right away. I honestly love all of the themes that Lauren has created. A little gossip for you, I ended up buying 3 of her themes because I could’t decide on which one I loved more. Lauren actually created a quiz to help you find your perfect theme!
Set Up Social Media Scheduling
Alrighty, now that your blog is set up and looking stunning, it’s time to handle your social media. As much as I wish we all had plenty of time during our day to scroll through Pinterest and set timers to pin our own pins, we just don’t. So that’s where Tailwind comes in! Tailwind is here to basically do all your pinning for you throughout the day after you spend a couple minutes deciding what to pin. They even have preset time slots based on your followers activity to better help your exposure.
You can sign up for a free trial that gives you 100 pins to try out. And even past the free trial, the pricing packages are amazing! People say time is money. Well, I know I could be doing much more with my time than sitting on the computer pinning my life away. So I’ll happily let Tailwind do that for me.
Now the great thing about Facebook is that you can schedule posts as far in advance as you would like! So no worries there. Simply and easy. You can also see your scheduled posts clearly to make sure everything is laid out the way you like. For Twitter and Instagram, you could use Hootsuite (or Tailwind for IG), but I choose not to use scheduling apps for those right now. Definitely later on in my blogging journey, but not now.
Find Trusted Blogging Resources
Finding resources online that you can trust can be tough. You want to make sure that whatever you’re spending your money on is going to be of value to you. This can be a bit of a journey finding bloggers who are helpful and honest. But luckily for you, I’ve already found someone! Abby from Just A Girl And Her Blog is your go-to source for trustworthy blogging resources. She has plenty of freebies and affordable e-books that can help you through your blogging journey.
One of her e-books (more like master program) is called Building A Framework: The Ultimate Blogging Handbook and it is freaking awesome. I purchased the Master Package right off the bat because it includes video tutorials and expert interviews. Abby wasn’t messing around when she created this e-book. You get much much more than your money’s worth here. I went as far as to print the ENTIRE handbook which is dang near 200 pages because I wanted a hard copy. If you want a place to start regarding blogging resources, then I HIGHLY suggest you invest in this!
I hope this helps you with getting started on your new blog! Please feel free to check out other blogging resources here on Sweet Hydrangeas. I’m currently building up a library of resources for everyone to access that will help them be successful!
